Identifying Malicious Background Processes | What to Keep and What to Remove

Good Morning Microsoft Support,

After going through my Task Manager, I have noticed a few irregular processes running in the background or suspended. This made me wonder if there is an existing resource or guide on how to identify which processes are malicious, and which are not. I have listed a few specific processes that I have identified, and would like advice.

Program 1: WebCompanion.exe by LavaSoft

Program 2: Video.UI.exe (no Author)

This program is especially suspicious because under the security tab of properties, there are two sections that say "Account Unknown"
Windows for home | Windows 11 | Security and privacy

    Hi max fisk

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

    1

video.ui.exe is usually a genuine process known as the Xbox Live Video User Interface

Right click that process in Task Manage and select 'Open File Location', please provide a screenshot of the resulting folder.

    2

WebCompanion.exe by LavaSoft usually gets installed with other software when you install them, it is not a required component and you should be able to uninstall Web Companion for the Apps section in the Settings app.
