I read some comments here but nothing was helpful. Here's what worked for me:
First of all, the problem was related to the NVidia driver.
Solution:
- Press Windows key + X.
- Open Device Manager and expand "System Displays".
- Uninstall the NVidia driver. Tick the box that says to remove driver completely from the computer
- Restart your computer.
- Go to any browser and download the NVidia application: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/software/nvidia-app/
- Install the application and launch it
- Go to the drivers tab and click on "update drivers"
Update: A day later I realized that everything works fine when I start my laptop with the HDMI cable already inserted, but if I remove the cable and restart my laptop with the cable removed, when I insert the cable after the laptop is on, the second display shows innactive on the settings and there's no signal in the target display.
After trying several solutions, I came to the conclusion that the problem was related to the graphics display my computer was using.
So you have to change the default graphics display in the settings.
Steps:
- Type "Graphics Settings" on windows search box
- Open it and select "Remote Desktop Connection"
- Choose the NVIDIA display adapter.
- Restart your machine
