Windows 10 20H2 update breaks windows update.

Question

After updating to windows 10 20H2, windows update is stuck at checking for updates. Every time I try to shutdown or restart it always says update and shutdown and update and restart which takes forever to shutdown and restart the computer. I have restarted the PC a few times now and windows update is still stuck at checking for updates. How do I resolve this issue?

Edit: I don't know what kind of sorcery is this but my problem has been magically fixed! I didn't do anything at all. I just turned on my laptop today and everything is working fine. It's no longer stuck at checking for updates and I don't get update and shutdown anymore. No clue what happened but I am impressed!

This is 16 July 2021. This issue is still there. I am facing this issue for more than a month and also tried few remedies (updating Edge, clearing temporary files). Nothing worked for me.

What a bad state of windows OS. Developer community anyway switching to MacOS. Soon retail users will follow the suit.

Current users of windows are the ones who can't afford Mac, soon they will also have a better alternative as ChromeOS.

Good that MS has moved into cloud business.

I had the same problem. I contacted Microsoft. After checking my latest  version and history , I was told that I was up-to-date.  However, to make me feel better, she suggested to install the updates again by using Microsoft Assist . I clicked on download and bingo, it downloaded the latest update . However, my computer still says that I am not updated. History says that I am updated but I cannot get rid of the false message that I am not . I now set the next update to be done in 7 days, Will see what happens.

Unfortunately a lot of the software I use won't work on anything except Mac or Windows, and I hate Apple more than I hate MS.
