Missing Digital Ownership for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020

As the title suggest, I don't have the "digital ownership" add-on in my microsoft store library. I activated a code for the Pre-order standard pack, which should include the digital ownership according to microsofts website, but I can't find it, and as soon as I start up the game, I'm hit with "please insert disc to continue".

Hello, got the same Problem, i activate it, and didn't "receive" the "Digital Ownership" File.

So its Unplayable, because i didnt have any Discs! or any "Digital Ownership" File. I tried everything.

Reinstalling a few times, turning off Anti-Vir and Firewall. Logging on off. Resetting the MS Store Cache. I have no more ideas!

"Known Issue: Some users seeing a "Please insert the Microsoft Flight Simulator disc" error when launching the game on Windows 10.

Workaround: In order to play the game digitally on Windows 10, you will need to have the Digital Ownership File installed as it is required to grant the necessary permissions to play. If you already have this file installed and are running in to this error, please uninstall and reinstall this file only and this should resolve the issue. There is no need to uninstall the entire 127+GB base game files. Uninstalling this small 10MB file is all that will be needed. "

    and this doesnt help!

    Hi Greg

I am frustrated with this issue too.

i have tried all the various suggestions but to no avail.

However, I'm attracted to the published suggestion of uninstalling / re-installing the Digital Ownership file as per MS's resolution: "you will need to have the Digital Ownership File installed as it is required to grant the necessary permissions to play. If you already have this file installed and are running in to this error, please uninstall and reinstall this file only and this should resolve the issue. "

But... where does the Digital Ownership file reside on my PC?  where can i find it?

where can i download a 'pure' version of the Digital Ownership file

             what's the re-installation process?

    thanks in anticipation

    Thanks for your reply

I ended up designing my own workaround.... took a digital image of disk 1 (there’s a name & software for this, but i can’t now recall it). This creates an extra drive (which is that disc image; same as if you were putting a usb stick in).  Then through the Startup side of Win 10 have that image opening automatically every time the PC boots up. When it boots up you see a box on screen which you just x out. You’ll also find that extra drive I mentioned listed with its own letter on the drive list for your pc. Works for me!!  The box comes up every time I boot up the PC but about half those times I’m booting to play MSFS, so it doesnt matter so much!!

    Trust that helps

Hi Michael. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator, here to help you.

What makes you think the issue is activation? Are you getting an activation message too?

Because the insert disk prompt is as known issue covered :https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/...

A Support article for this was published here:

    https://flightsimulator.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/ar...

If that doesn' help then there are a bunch of workarounds and fixes in the first thread.

You can contact MSFS 2020 Support here:

I hope this helps. Based on the results you report back I may have other suggestions if necessary. If you will wait to choose whether the problem is resolved, then I will continue to help until the problem is fixed.
