My new laptop ran into "blue screen" and switched off automatically when updating" "2020-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4586781) - Error 0x800f0845"

My laptop was prompted for update of "2020-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4586781) - Error 0x800f0845".

However, when my laptop was restarted and updated the above windows update, it ran into problems and turned to "blue screen".  And then, the laptop switched off itself automatically.  I pressed the "On" button of my laptop, it restarted and automatically repaired itself.  Then, it switched off itself again.  I pressed the "On" button of my laptop 2nd time.  Then, the laptop removed the latest windows update of the above.  It worked again.

I strongly believe there is a serious problem of the windows update KB4586781.  I don't want this update to screw up my new Laptop.  My laptop is new and was bought less than 15 days.

Please advise how can solve the above issue.  As I can see that this window update is still pending on my Windows update.  I cannot avoid this update as the laptop was forced to update this when I try to switch of the laptop.

Kindly advise.  Many thanks.

    AlonsoMoreno2_917,

    I have the same issue.

I have successfully installed Win10 20H2 through the normal Update process on two PCs and thee Laptops. However, I have one PC that fails (multiple times) but backs out the change and recovers.

Today I tried a full install (via a Media Creation Tool USB Flash Drive) on the problem PC. During the install attempt, I deleted the Windows partitions (System, Reserved, Primary, and Recovery) so its not some bad device driver or anything else on my hard drive.

I made it through the install up to the point it wants you to sigh on to you Microsoft account. Then it dies with a blue screen reporting a page fault from a non-paged address. I have run memory diagnostics with no errors. I use this PC every day with zero errors on the previous 2004 (20H1) level of Windows 10.

After the failed install of 20H2, I reinstalled 2004 (20H1) with no issues. After the 2004 (20H1) install completed, I tried Settings - Update which failed, and then backed out KB4586781.

Here are the Event Logs with the install errors:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with  error 0x800F0845: 2020-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4586781).

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x00000050 (0xfffff28000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000006).

A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 13e51ec1-1520-4bb7-ad72-11c13683b610.

    Hello, csl_2020.

My name Is Alonso, I am an independent advisor.

This problem is usually due to a bad installation or writing of the operating system update, therefore, my recommendation is that you format and reinstall the version you already had or a stable version of windows 10.

I hope my recommendation will serve you, it is a pleasure to help you.

I am here to serve you my friend, I hope I have been helpful.

    Greetings.

My machine is totally useless after this KB4586781 update.  Machine was fine up until Thursday 11/12.  Windows Applied patch overnight.  Woke up to machine at the recovery screen and has been in a perpetual Attempting Auto Recovery/Diagnosing PC loop since.  None of the recovery tools - Startup repair, uninstall last quality update, restore point worked.  System did have a pending.xml file remaining in the c:\windows\winsxs directory in it, and hw diagnostics and chkdsk /r all checked out fine.  The last 4 entries in the WindowsUpdate log included:

Success Content Install Installation Started: Windows has started installing the following update: 2020-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 2004 for x64-based Systems (KB4586781)

    Success Content Install Installation pending

Success Software Synchronization. Windows Update client detected 1 update

Success Software Synchronization. Windows Update client detected 9 updates

This is brutal.  Anyone else seeing any failures like this?  Any suggestions (before what looks like the inevitable and totally unacceptable reinstall)?
