My firewall is blocking my printer/scanner from scanning images onto my laptop. Strangely, even when I turn off the firewall, I still cannot scan. Help please!

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you have issue scanning images.

It would be great if you can answer these questions to assist you in a better way.

    ·         What is the make and model of the scanner?

    ·         What happens when you try to scan?

    ·         Are you using Windows Defender firewall or any other security software?

    ·         Are you aware of any changes made to the computer recently?

Meanwhile, you can try the following steps and check.

Fix printer connection and printing problems in Windows 10

Re-Install and use a scanner in Windows 10

Automatically diagnose and fix problems with Windows Firewall

    Thank you for your reply!

It says on the printer that it is a Canon TS5050, although it is listed on my computer as a TS5000.

When I try to scan, an error message pops up and the scanner does nothing. I have reinstalled Windows on my computer, to no effect.

I have Windows Defender Firewall and Avira Antivirus in operation. I tried turning off my firewall, or resetting it to default, but the scanner still would not work. This would suggest it is not a firewall-related issue, but I'm not sure. I also tried to play around with outbound rules, which didn't help either.

In terms of changes made to the computer: I recently was using Nox and Bluestacks emulators and turned off my firewall to do so. I may have accidentally changed something while doing that.

I would appreciate any help you could offer. Thanks

    Hi,

    Thanks for replying.

    • When you say “When I try to scan, an error message pops up”, what’s the complete error message that you receive?
    • How is the printer/scanner connected to the PC? e.g. wired/wireless

Meanwhile, I suggest you refer and follow the suggestion from the article on ScannerDoes Not Work and Scanning Problems and see if that helps.
