I recently uninstalled the virus protection from my laptop and wanted to revert back to using windows defender. even after rebooting my laptop it still shows the same message as above.

I went to control panel- security & maintenance and wanted to uncheck the box saying spyware & malware but the tick in the box was in light grey not black or empty. So I don't know what to do now. Can anyone help?

Ok, then try this:

Fire up the search box, then type CMD. From there, right-click on Command Prompt, then select Run as Administrator.

Once the CMD is up and running, please copy and paste the following command in it and hit Enter:

REG DELETE "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender" /v DisableAntiSpyware

    Hi!

My name is Federico. I'm an Independent Advisor, I'll be glad to help you today.

Please, could you tell me which antivirus you had previously installed? Perhaps there were still traces of it.

    Best regards,

    Federico

    Hi Federico

I did exactly as you said and I got the following error message:

    Invalid Argument/Option

I could copy and paste so had to type it out. I made sure to copy exactly as written being careful with upper and lower case letters.

    Hi Federico

Thank you. It was 360 security and I also had Bytefence which I wasn't even aware I had. I uninstalled both. I also searched the whole pc for files of that name only a shortcut showed up so I deleted that too. Hope that helps you to help me.

    Melanie 😁
