Windows 10 using "Microsoft Basic Display Driver" instead of my GPU Drivers

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the sccreen in french but I rather use the english forum that the french one.

Here are my specs :

OS : Windows 10 version 20H2
CPU : Intel® Core™ i5-6600K 3.50 GHz
GPU : Radeon RX 480 Graphics
Ram : 8 GB

I juste downloaded a new game and i have been unable to launch it because of the following error :

While searching how to fix this issue I found multiple video saying it is a GPU driver compatibility issue and that I need to update my driver. It was quite strange for me because my driver was updated and my GPU is not very old (4 years ).

The tutorial I watched explained how to get the name of the GPU by opening the "display adapter properties". There I saw that there was an issue on my computer the adapter type is appearing as "Microsoft Basic Display Driver" instead of my GPU driver. I tried reinstalling my driver but to no avail.

i already tried to force the game to use my GPU in the "Graphics setting" "Graphics performance preferences" but It didn't worked.

I don't have other issues with my display.

Thanks

Hi, I'm Elise, an Independent Advisor and I'd be happy to help with your issue.

Try download the driver directly from the AMD website and install, this should then use the correct driver for the hardware:

Please let me know if you need any further assistance.

    Kind Regards,

    Elise

Can you open the device manager app, located the device and select to uninstall. Then reboot your PC and see if this resolves the issue?

    Kind Regards,

    Elise
