How to update TPM from 1.2 to 2.0 on HP Spectre x360?

I see that WIN11 will require TPM 2.0 whereas my HP Spectre x360 has TPM 1.2 installed. I did find an HP bulletin but my laptop is not listed in the list: https://support.hp.com/ie-en/document/c05792935 (only 2 other HP Spectre models). Mine is model# 13-4003DX, product ID# L0Q51UA#ABA.

I have looked all over and downloaded the HPIA and, again, no HP Spectre x360 models are listed in that program. I tried the WIN11 test program to determine if my machine was compatible and the only thing that failed was the TPM 1.2 issue. Everything else (core i7 processor, RAM, etc.) passed the WIN11 test.

I did find this article (https://www.danielengberg.com/hp-tpm-firmware-version-upgrade-from-1-2-to-2-0-tpm-configuration-utility/) but again it says to install HPIA which does not list HP Spectre x360 models in the dropdown.

I can't find anything from HP to help me.

Hello, my name is Anderson Souza, I am an Independent Advisor and I hope I can help you with your problem today.

As the TPM is a hardware component only the manufacturer can help you in this case. I also warn that improperly performed firmware updates can render the component unusable. So I suggest you try HP support again and if you don't get the desired feedback, check with an HP authorized service center in your region to verify the feasibility of this upgrade.

That seems to be consistent with my search results as well. Nobody's talking about how to find a laptop's TPM version, or how to upgrade it, only tutorials from 2018 involving a critical security patch update.

I own an HP laptop and totally feel OP's pain. The struggle is indeed most real when anything you do to properly maintain their tech ends up triggering the MBR kill switch. On the upside, the holiday sales are going to be amazing for new machines...

Thanks for the assist, Anderson. We'll just do what we can for the time being.

It's easy to find your machine's TPM version.. I know mine is 1.2, but I just can't find a way to upgrade it to 2.0. Maybe HP has no way to do it via a software/firmware upgrade for HP Spectre x360 machines that aren't the G2 models.

I did see that HP still has a July 4th special on their laptops but since WIN11 isn't coming out until the fall, maybe I'll wait for the Thanksgiving or Christmas specials. My current Spectre x360 still works as well as when it was new (2015) so I was not planning on replacing it... not that I have to, necessarily. It all depends on how much an improvement WIN11 is over WIN10. Maybe I'll stick with WIN10 and this Spectre x360 for a few more years.
