Terrible performance loss with win11 22H2: how to get back if no recovery point?

Over a 10-day period I upgrade to 22H2, upgraded Dell bios on i9-7900x system, and swapped out a graphics board for a better one. I then noticed a major problem. My applications were taking 4.5 hours to run when they should have finished in 2 hours or less. I put the old video board back in. Complained to Dell that my system was not allowing a BIOS downgrade, then pulled the SDD "C" drive and the 'D" HDD and put in an old Del laptop drive that still had windows 10 on it. My applications started working perfectly.

The original problem:

After booting windows 10 home and installing my apps, the following statistics

CPU utilization is 82->100 and completion time is 2 hours. Windows 10 is running

my applications 2x as fast as windows 11

I have no restore points before 22H2 and do not see how to restore windows 11 to before 22H2

Is there a way to re-install windows 11 but not get 22H2? This is a developments system, and it would be major problem to go back to 10 if I had to do a clean install.

I googled "22H2 slowdown" and tried all the suggestions I could find. None helped.

Thanks for looking!

    Joseph -

To upgrade to the latest version I would use the latest ISO file from http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

Double click to mount the ISO, right click Setup to Run as Admnistrator.

For any problems see these steps for Overcoming Version Upgrade Failures: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

I upgraded windows 10 home to 22H2 (19045) and my applications seem to run fine

Going to bring windows 11 back up and try a reset that keeps all my apps and documents

Perhaps some setting in windows 11 causing the slowdown. Note that the CPO utilization are all in the 98% like they should be and expected completion is 2 hours.

This is good to know, it's a combination Repair Install and Version Upgrade by the most stable method that has worked here.

I hope it works from Windows 11 as well. What is the app that is telling you CPU utilization and time left? Why is 98% viewed as normal?

Hi Joseph. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

You can roll back Feature Update 22H2 in Settings > System > Recovery for ten days. Then block it following https://www.itechtics.com/block-windows-22h2-up...

If too late there is older version media here: https://tb.rg-adguard.net/public.php. Burn to DVD using WIndows Image Burner or create bootable flash using one of the options here: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2376-create...

Then do the Clean Install here:

    https://www.windowscentral.com/how-do-clean-ins...

Make sure during the booted install to unplug all other drives, boot the media as a UEFI Device, choose Custom Install, delete all partitions down to Unallocated Space to get it cleanest, choose the Unallocated Space, click Next to auto-create and -format the needed partitions and begin install - this makes it foolproof.

After install expedite all Windows Updates including Optional until no more are offered. Then import any drivers from the PC maker's Support Downloads web page for your model that are newer, or branded instead of generic. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is how to keep the latest manufacturer's drivers current. Windows drivers are rarely enough.

Since this is a developer rig you might want to also ask at a developers' forum here:

    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/...

    https://stackoverflow.com/

    https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/s...

    https://www.quora.com/What-are-the-top-10-websi...

    I hope it helps.

Looking at the link your provided II noticed that 22H2 is available for windows 10 not just 11.

Currently I have windows 10 home 19043 which is identified as 21H1

I am going to upgrade 10 home to 22H2 and see if the problem shows up.

Using Microsoft's feedback app I mentioned the problem and provided a link to this web page for details.

If the problem still shows up, I will have to stick with windows 11.
