Hello All,

SCCM CB 2002; BranchCache enabled

We are attempting to upgrade Win10-1809 to 1909 with immediate effect for a set to PCs
The method we are using is to simply deploy the 1909 Feature Update. (No Task Sequence, Service Plan is being used for now)

We want to pre-download the 3.5gb file overnight to ccmcache, by the usual method we used for Patch deployment i.e. Make it available now, with deadline after 1 week

On majority of the PCs, we see only windowsupdatebox.exe being pre-downloaded in ccmcache, but not the ESD file. The status of the deployment shows "Downloaded Update(s)"

cas.log (Working PC)
CacheManager: ADD new cache entry for id:f67852f5-c9d1-4314-88d4-76349dbded30 Version : 1 Size : 3561610K RefCount:1 LastRef Minutes : 0 State : ACTIVE PinDuration : 11985 Location : C:\WINDOWS\ccmcache\2t

cas.log : (Not working PC)
CacheManager: ADD new cache entry for id:e69f3a03-cb4f-47ab-9b35-7fb261a84cc5 Version : 1 Size : 0K RefCount:0 LastRef Minutes : 0 State : ACTIVE PinDuration : 0 Location : C:\WINDOWS\ccmcache\3h

(If I trigger from Software Center, the download then begins, and I can see the ESD file in ccmcache)

What may be the likely reason for it not pre-downloading the ESD file on some PCs? Please help - Thanks

There's no such thing as a "Feature Pack". Do you mean "Enablement package"? If so, this is not applicable for an upgrade from 1809 to 1909.

There are multiple enablement packages available, but none for this. The ones that are available perform the following upgrades:

    • 1903 to 1909
    • 20H1 to 20H2
    • 20H1 to 21H1 or 20H2 to 20H1

Or, do you instead mean "Feature Update"?

    Hi,

Thanks for posting in Microsoft MECM Q&A forum.

1,Do you deploy the Feature update as "Required"?

2,If possible, please create an upgrade task sequence and deploy it as "Available" to see if the pre-cache feature works well.
Refer to: Configure pre-cache content for task sequences

    Best regards,
    Simon

Ok - this has been resolved with the following steps

    (1) Disable Delta updates in Client Settings (Delivery Optimization was already disabled)
    (2) Deploy a script on PCs to:
    (a) Clear ccmcache
    (b) Reset Policies

    • WMIC /Namespace:\root\ccm path SMS_Client CALL ResetPolicy 1 /NOINTERACTIVE
      (c) Pull machine Policy
      (d) Trigger Scan cycle

    Wait for a few hours

We were able to the esd file in ccmcache for all 10 PCs we tested on
