External HDD causing BSOD: "Your Device Ran Into a Problem---Stop Code: SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED What failed: Ntfs.sys

Hi,

Seeking help in getting this sorted.

Seagate backup plus is causing BSOD when plugged in, system works file when unplugged.

Error: SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED What failed: Ntfs.sys

I just need to get the drive to accessed to take a back up of my files or run a data recovery. I have tried calling Seagate and they provided with recovery software but the moment I try to plug in the HDD, it causes the system to BSOD. when I unplug , the system seems to be working fine.

I have tried the usual troubleshoot step:

tried different computer

tried different port

tried different USB

safe mode causes BSOD too

Any suggestions to recover the files would be very helpful.

    This is a file system error. Does the crash happen whenever you connect a removable drive? This could be a failure of the drive.

    Find a flash drive that you can format.

    Create a bootable Ubuntu flash drive: https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows#1-overview

    Boot to the Ubuntu flash drive.

    See if you can backup files.

    Alternatively you may have a friend, or neighbor, or relative or local computer store that is dual booting Ubuntu / Linux.

    See if a computer booting Ubuntu /linux can backup the data.

    If Ubuntu / Linux fails then consider testing the disk drive with:

    Sea Tools bootable or legacy

    Testdisk

    etc.

    This may be due to the failure of the drive's master chip.

    Even if there is no BSOD, it is unlikely to be working properly. I recommend seeking professional data recovery services.

    yes, i somehow want to recover the data from the external hard drive. the problem is whenever i connect it shuts down with BSOD. any suggestions as to how can we recover file from the external hard drive
