Cannot restore classic Azure VM - The selected DNS name is already taken.

After migrating my classic Azure VM to ARM my DNS name *.cloudapp.net no longer existed as I had to recreate a new one using *.northeurope.cloudapp.azure.com. I was then trying to restore the original VM from backup using my old name but I am getting the below error but my old DNS name does not exist to any of my VMs.
Error code - UserErrorBCMDNSAlreadyTaken
Error message - The selected DNS name is already taken.
Recommended action - Please specify a different DNS name and try again.
Has anyone had this before or managed to solve it?*
