Set a custom aspect ratio/resolution through Windows

Hi,

I mostly use my desktop (Running Win11) as a cloud computer, remotely connecting to it via Parsec.

I often connect to it via my Surface, which has a 3:2 aspect ratio, rather than the 16:9 one of my Desktop monitor that is attached to my PC. This results in black bars on the top and bottom, which are also kind of annoying when using the mouse in full-screen.

My Desktop is attached to an AOC CQ32G7 (1440p@144Hz,16:9) using DP.

I have tried to set a custom aspect ratio through my AMD GPU driver, however, it says: "The settings are outside the capabilities of the attached display" (kinda makes sense...)

However, I can set it to other aspect ratios using Windows display settings (e.g. 1920x1200). That isn't 3:2, but its closer.

Now, is there any option to enter/add a custom aspect ratio my display settings (Preferably something like 2880x1920, the resolution of my surface pro 8's screen.)

On Linux something like this is possible, so I was wondering whether its also possible in Windows.

Any help would be appreciated!

    Hi LightJack05,

I'm Rodrigo and I will help you.

The best option is to change it on the graphics adapter software, but since it did not work, you can use CRU to add a new custom resolution to Windows Display Settings, download, open it, and add the desired resolution.

    Hi,

this worked, but I still had to go down to a lower resolution with the same aspect ratio. (Probably my DP connection not handling more?)

However, I am interested in how they do that... Is that utility open source? You got a link to the GitHub repo?

Also, is there a way to do this through PowerShell without 3rd party software?

    Regards,

    LightJack

I got this from this forum, it is an old thread, but maybe you can find some useful resources.

I don't know another way to do it, only using this software.
