Hi,

I was one of the unfortunate who installed the August 9, 2022 KB5016616 update and now I am dealing with audio output issues. The issues I have is that my HP desktop audio device supports five speaker outputs. After I installed the Windows update audio from my apps plays only out of my front speaker output. System audio plays out of all the speaker outputs. The following snip is from device manager;

I believe the last item listed above was added after I installed the August windows update. The following is the driver properties;

When I try to update the driver I get the following;

I try all the work arounds mentioned in the links below but none of them work.

Does anyone know when Microsoft will release a patch to fix this issue?

Regards,

Ray

    Dear Raysim52,in this case you can try using a system restore to a date before the update that caused the problem;

    • Press the “Windows+R” keys now type RSTRUI and click “OK”.
    • Click on "Show more restore points" so that more options of dates to restore appear and then choose a point with a date before this problem;
    • Proceed through the screens until the restoration starts and completes.

    Note: System Restore will leave the computer the way it was on the date you choose, that is, if a program was installed after the date you chose, the program will not appear installed after the restore, and so on. Files and personal data are not lost, such as documents, music, videos, photos, etc.

    If the issue is fixed after the restore, pause updates on Windows Update for 7 days;

    If the problem still persists, the solution will be to wait for the next updates since you don't want to completely reset the PC;

    Hope this helps, see you soon!

    Luis,

    Thanks for your time. I have tried all of these already and more. From what I read the only fix is the a Microsoft update or a full system recovery.

    Hopefully Microsoft will push out an update to address this issue soon.

    Regards,

    Ray

    Dear Raysim52,I understand, in this case there are some solutions that may work;

    Try changing the output device and check the behavior;

    Right-click the sound icon on the taskbar and go to Open sound settings;

    In Choose output device, click on the drop-down menu beside to change the output device;

    Check if the problem has been fixed;

    Try running the troubleshooter;

    Press Windows key + i and go to Update and Security;

    Click Troubleshooting and then Additional Troubleshooting;

    Select Playing Audio and click Run the troubleshooter;

    Check if the problem is fixed;

    Check Windows Update for optional updates;

    Press Windows key + i and go to Update and Security;

    Click View Optional Updates;

    Make pending updates;

    Check if the problem still persists;

    Hope this helps, see you soon!

    Luis,

    First let me say that the Speakers / Headphones IDT High Definition Audio Codec was not added after the update. What I meant to say was I don't recall ever seeing the Stereo Mix listed in the properties before.

    HP Support Assistant found no issues since it found a genetic driver. Also uninstalling the device doesn't help since on reboot it is added back again.

    As you see from the screen shots I can't change the driver since the device properties show no driver files are loaded or required for the device. And the other screen shot shows if I try to change the driver it states "the best drivers for the device are already installed. I don't know if you read the links above but the issues I have is due to the August update and Microsoft is aware it. I was just asking if anyone has any idea when Microsoft will release a patch to fix the issue the update caused?

    Regards,

    Ray

    Hello Raysim52, welcome to the Microsoft community, I'll be happy to help you today;

    I understand that you are having problems with the audio output after a Windows update;

    Initially I recommend that you download the HP Support Assistant app to update the audio drivers:

    https://support.hp.com/us-en/help/hp-support-as...

    After updating the audio drivers check if the problem is fixed;

    If the problem persists, I recommend that you uninstall the device that was added after the update;

    Access Device Manager;

    Uninstall Speakers / Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio Codec);

    Restart the PC;

    Check if the problem has been fixed;

    Hope this helps, see you soon!
