Windows 11 Cumulative Update not downloading and installing.

Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter.

If it persists, rename the software distribution folders as instructed below:

1. Open Start and type cmd, right-click on "Command Prompt", and select "Run as administrator".
2. Run the following commands at the Command Prompt one at a time:

net stop bits

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptsvc

ren %systemroot%\softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.bak

ren %systemroot%\system32\catroot2 catroot2.bak

net start bits

net start wuauserv

net start cryptsvc

3. After all these commands are completed, close the Command Prompt window, restart your computer, and then try to update Windows.

If it persists, use the system file checker to repair possible corrupted or missing system files.

1. Open Start and type cmd, right-click on "Command Prompt", and select "Run as administrator".
2. Run the following commands at the Command Prompt one at a time:

dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

sfc /scannow

3. Then restart your PC and see if you can update.

If it persists, download and install the update that is having problems manually.

Hi Sam,

Did the April monthly update Build 22000.613 install successfully? KB5012643 is a preview update and may be buggy.

What are your current Windows build?

• Press "Windows + R", type winver, and click OK.

If you prefer, send a screenshot (Windows + Shift + S).

Be sure to censor your email address if it appears. The Microsoft Community is public.

Do you use any third-party security software (Antivirus/Firewall)?

If yes. Temporarily disable it and try updating Windows.

My most recent successful "Cumulative" Update was on April 12th is = 2022-04 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8 for Windows 11 for x64 (KB5012121).

There have been other kinds of successful updates sine that time (including yesterday).

It is only the two most recent Cumulative Updates that will not download and install. They are:

1. 2022-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5012643) (42)
2. 2022-04 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 for x64-based Systems (KB5012592)
