Windows Media Player. RIP CD. Track 1 Meta Data Missing.
Hello people,
This is more of an information post than a question.
Firstly, for information purposes, I am using Window Media Player - Version 12.0.22000.348, on a Window 11 based laptop.
I have been researching a problem with Windows Media Player (WMP), where by when you rip a CD, the meta data for the first track is missing. WMP recognises and displays the correct track information in the player interface, however, when looking at the file location in Windows, the first track on every album ripped, only displays the file name. The title, Album name, Artist etc. are missing or unknown.
I have read many post on this and other forums where people are experiencing this exact same issue. However, none of the suggested solutions appear to fix the problem. It appears that most people, myself included have resorted to using additional editing software such as mp3.tag to manually rectify the data. Whilst this software is extremely useful for editing your meta data to suit your own desires, such as adding any missing Album Art, it is a tedious task to load up every album in your database, simply to correct a single file entry. Better that the error does not occur in the first place.
By pure chance, I seem to have discovered a solution. At leased on my system. SWITCH OFF AUTOMATIC RIPPING! My RIP settings were set to automatically rip a CD when inserted into the drive. I inadvertently turned this off whilst fiddling, and discovered that the error appears to be resolved. By launching the RIP process manually, all of the meta data in the windows file location is now complete and correct.
I have no idea why this works, but I'm sure someone out there will be able to explain it. Nevertheless, I felt it worthy of sharing, and my hope is that it may offer some assistance to anyone frustrated with the issue.
Thank you for reading,
Keep the faith, and stay safe...!

2021-12-28T16:09:28+00:00 I also use Windows media player. When I insert a CD to rip, the system says "no CD".
This is extremely frustrating because I just put it in! So I end up opening and closing several times. It's basically a game whether or not I ever get it done; there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to which ones WILL end up being ripped.
Any suggestions?

2021-12-29T16:38:20+00:00 I have noted that WMP will no longer recognise video files, so if your disc contains mixed content that can cause a miss read. This can also happen with none licenced discs, or corrupted files. If none of the above applies, then my only suggestion would be to clean the drive using an appropriate cleaning disc, and reinstall WMP. This might? fix your issue.
