Combining M365 F3 and OneDrive for Business P1 for increased OneDrive capacity?

Hello,

I have a F3 user that is currently capped at 2GB OneDrive capacity.

I want to upgrade the capacity so we purchased a OneDrive for Business (P1) and added it to the user. In M365 admin it still says 2GB.

Is it not possible to upgrade the OneDrive capacity by using this standalone license or is the F3 capped at 2GB regardless of additional licenses? If so, where is the documentation.

Hi @Ola

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Forum.

I understand the issue: You have a Microsoft 365 F3 user who is capped at 2GB of OneDrive storage. To resolve this, you've assigned a standalone OneDrive for Business (Plan 1) license, but the user's storage capacity in the admin center has not increased.

The F3 license is hard-capped at 2GB regardless of other licenses assigned for the same service. Here is a more detailed explanation based on my research: The Microsoft 365 F3 license is a comprehensive service suite designed for frontline workers. This suite dictates the service levels for all its included components, and for OneDrive, that limit is intentionally set to 2GB. A OneDrive for Business (Plan 1) license, on the other hand, is a standalone storage plan. When both are assigned to a user, the system's licensing hierarchy gives precedence to the comprehensive suite (F3). It recognizes that the F3 plan already provides the OneDrive service, and it will not allow the standalone P1 license to override the storage limit already defined within the F3 package. The correct and most seamless method is to upgrade the user's primary license from Microsoft 365 F3 to a higher-tier plan that includes 1 TB of OneDrive storage. Suitable upgrade paths include: Microsoft 365 E3/E5

Also, you could create a completely new user account and assign only the OneDrive for Business (Plan 1) license to it.

Appreciate your patience and understanding.  I hope this information can help you to solve your issue soon.
