Devices Reverted from Windows 10 to Windows 8.1

Three devices, including two laptops and one desktop, were purchased with Windows 10 but have reverted to Windows 8.1. The devices are currently using generic drivers rather than the specific drivers included with the hardware. Many Windows 10 applications are not functioning correctly.

What could have caused this issue, and what steps can be taken to resolve it? Additionally, there's an issue with the Microsoft Store not being available, and connecting to a phone for file transfers is problematic, as is downloading iTunes from Apple. Assistance is needed to address these issues, which have persisted over the past two years.

    • Windows 8.1 reached end of support in January 2023, so staying on it is not recommended.
    • Download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool from Microsoft’s official site. Follow instructions to create a bootable USB.
    • After reinstalling Windows 10, go to your device manufacturer's support website and download the latest Windows 10 drivers.
    • Windows 10 comes with the Microsoft Store built in, so you'll have access to it immediately after installation. From there, you can download apps like iTunes either through the Store or directly from Apple's website.
    • Windows 10 has native support for MTP, the standard protocol for transferring files to and from phones. Once you've installed the appropriate drivers, your phone should connect and transfer files without issues.
