HI All,

I have this program called plasmacam 3.11, I use it to run my cnc plasma cutter. The issue is the was made for windows xp, the software comes with a vhelp.exe that opens a video manual but on my current version of windows 10 the video does not work, I can hear the sound. ON an older version of windows 10 it seems to work fine also on windows xp. When I go to install it ask to install directx 9.0c, wmp, mpsetup.exe and acrobat505.

All seem to install fine except mpsetup.exe, it says this app cant run on this device, i think its too old , software is out of date.

I can upload the software if anyone wants to try to help me.

I tried compatibility, nothing, I tried rebooting, I can play videos using media player but not from the vhelp.exe. the weird thing is the vhelp.exe app is running, it just goes blank where the video should be. I can hear it running cause the sound works, just no video, I thought maybe a codec problem. I dont know .

I tried your suggestions then reinstalling the software, the weird thing this time was the first video played but when I tried to move to a different video it reverted back to not playing. Unfortunately the fix did not work, in the folder where the vhelp.exe is there are some other files , audio.dll, gdiplpus.dll, medial.dll, msvcp71.dll, msvcr71.dll, player.ocx, setting.cfg, vhelp.cfg, video.scp.

There are also files with no extensions, ex 1A12, 1B123 etc, I tried playing them with media player and I get a message saying the file has no extension, do you want to try playing it, when i hit yes, the video plays.

So I had two options, made a virtualbox of win10 with no other installs and the vhelp.exe works on there.

So I tried copying all the files form the virtualbox to original and it didn't work, so I think the registry is messed up.

the other option is to rename the files without extensions to the chapter it belongs to and refer back if I want to watch the video.

I don't want to reinstall my whole system for this one problem so I will use the roundabout solutions.

In general, you do not need to install an older version of DirectX as the newer version should work. MPsetup sounds like Windows Media Player which was built into newer versions of Windows but has since been deprecated.

In Windows Search type in features to pull up the Turn Windows Features On and Off. Then scroll down to Legacy Components and check DirectPlay. Then go further and select Windows Media Player under Media Features (or whatever category it shows under Win10). Then try the program again.

If that doesn't work then you might need to take a look at what type of video it is trying to play. I'm not familiar with this vhelp program but if it is a video player then the manual is likely in a video format that a modern player (like VLC) can play.

If that still isn't working, even with compatibility mode turned on for the app, then you might need to reach out to whoever wrote VHelp (not sure who that is).
