I need someone smarter then me to deal with the E_FVE_SECURE_BOOT_CHANGED code, and before you ask, i have tried my bitlocker recovery key a dozen times, it just takes me to the troubleshoot options of:

Startup repair (doesn't work)

Uefi Firmware Settings

Command Prompt

System Restore ( doesn't work )

Uninstall Updates ( doesn't work )

System image recovery ( doesn't work )

I am trying not to go to a pc repair shop yet, as i don't have the money to do that yet, and i was hoping someone would know how to steer me in the right direction?

    Hi Mikey,

Thanks for the update, Please try go to the official Microsoft website on your browser not through Rufus. Download the Windows ISO directly from there once it's saved to your computer, reopen Rufus, select the ISO manually, and continue with:

    • Partition scheme: GPT
    • Target system: UEFI (non-CSM)
    • File system: NTFS or FAT32

This should bypass the Rufus download issue entirely. You're doing everything right, and we're almost there.

    Warm regards,

    Cherrelyn

    Hi Mikey,

I’m really sorry Rufus gave you that kind of trouble after all that waiting. That’s incredibly frustrating, especially when you were so close.

Here’s what you can do now:

    1. Open Rufus again
    2. This time, under “Boot selection,” choose “Download”, but before starting, click the dropdown next to it and select “ISO image”
    3. Once it downloads, manually save the ISO file to your computer so it won’t vanish again
    4. Then relaunch Rufus, select that saved ISO, and proceed with the usual settings:
      • GPT
      • UEFI (non-CSM)
      • NTFS or FAT32

You're handling all of this really well, Mikey

    Warm regards,

    Cherrelyn

    Hi Mikey,

Yes, that sounds like you're downloading a Windows ISO file through Rufus and that’s exactly what we need!

Once the download finishes, Rufus will use that image to properly create a bootable USB. Just double-check that the settings are:

    Partition scheme: GPT

    Target system: UEFI (non-CSM)

    File system: NTFS or FAT32

You’re on the right track let me know once it’s done and we’ll move to the next step together.

    Warm regards,

    Cherrelyn

    Hi Mikey,

Alright sounds like we’re hitting that USB/IEEE 1394 detection roadblock again. Good call switching to Rufus at this point.

When setting it up in Rufus, be sure to select:

    Partition scheme: GPT

    Target system: UEFI (non-CSM)

File system: NTFS (or FAT32 if secure boot is enabled)

Once it’s done, give the boot another try.

    Warm regards,

    Cherrelyn

    Hi Mikey,

That’s fantastic progress and you’ve done everything right so far!

Now that the USB is confirmed as GPT and showing up correctly:

    Restart your PC

Enter the BIOS/UEFI setup (usually by pressing F2, Del, or Esc during startup)

    • Make sure the boot mode is set to UEFI, not Legacy or CSM

Set your USB as the first boot device

    • Save and exit BIOS your system should boot from the USB and start the Windows installer

From there, you can proceed with the installation. If anything feels off, I’m right here to guide you.

    Warm regards,

    Cherrelyn
