Microphone and Speaker Dropping Out on Teams on Mac

Using a 2019 MacBook Pro, running Catalina 10.15.4. During calls on MS Teams speakers and microphone will periodically drop out, also causes the in built speakers to completely disappear from the output device list when it happens (shown below).

All permissions are set in the proper place and I have tried all restarts and app deletes and re-downloads. I have also tried running teams through a browser and the same problem persists.

Is there any fix available? Thanks

Hi John_038JM,

Thank you for choosing Microsoft forum.

Based on your description, would you please kindly try the following workarounds to see if they help.

  1. Launch an InPrivate/InCognito window to avoid browser cache and sign in Teams web app to give a try.
  2. If the issue persists in Teams web app, please check the following items.

2.1 Check if your external devices or peripherals (if there are) meet the requirements. See USB audio and video devices certified for Microsoft Teams.

2.2 Update the audio drivers.

2.3 Check if your device meets the requirement in Hardware requirements for Teams on a Mac. Update Mac OS to the latest version (Catalina 10.15.7) if convenient.

2.4 Check your network and make sure it is stable. If not, switch to another network if possible. See Bandwidth requirements.

2.5 Create a new Mac profile.

  1. If the issue stops appearing in Teams web app, it might be a Teams desktop client issue. Kindly try the following items.

3.1 Check Teams update. Usually, for client issue, it is recommended to update the app, as it's an effective way to fix any known issue. See Update Microsoft Teams.

3.2 Clear Teams cache.

For Mac:

  1. Quit Microsoft Teams.
  2. Delete files in following folders.

“~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Application Cache/Cache”

“~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/blob_storage”

“~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Cache”

“~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/databases”

“~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/GPUCache”

“~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/IndexedDB”

“~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/Local Storage”

“~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Teams/tmp”

  1. Restart Microsoft Teams.

Hope this helps! Thank you.

Best regards & Stay safe,

Qian

Same here, indeed happens ones in a few days/weeks. For now rebooting is the only thing that works for me. Other apps seem not to have issues with finding the audio equipment (zoom/slack/os).
