Tag for external users

As an admin and team owner I would like to create a tag we can use in a shared channel to tag all external users at once. However, it seems that adding externals to a tag is impossible. Is there a setting I am missing? or is this a limitation? If so, please consider adding this.

    Hi Wim,

My name is Didi. Let me help you.

Currently, it is a limitation. We can't create a tag involving external users and tags are not supported in private or shared channels.

Greetings, Wim! My name is Arif, and I have been a long-time Microsoft user as well as an Independent Advisor. I'm sorry you're having this problem, and I hope I may be of assistance in finding a workable solution.

    Please take the following actions:

Create and manage tags in Teams

    1. Select Teams Teams button on the left side of the app and find your team in the list. Then select More options More options button and choose Manage tags manage tags icon.
    2. @mention a tag in a channel

In a channel conversation, simply @mention a tag in your message and select the tag from the list. The tag will appear just like any @mention, and the people associated with the tag will get notified.

    1. Using tags in a chat

To start a chat with the members of a tag, select New chat New chat icon in Teams, start typing the name of the tag, and then select the tag from the list. Everyone in the tag group will be added to the To: field.

    1. Manage settings for team owners

Team owners can choose which members of their team are allowed to add tags. Select Teams Teams button on the left side of the app and find your team in the list.

    1. Go to More options More options button, select Manage team Settings button, choose the Settings tab, and then navigate to the Tags section. Here you can control whether team members or team owners can manage tags.
    2. Here, you can create tags and assign them to people on your team.

    Dear,

this is not at all an answer to my question, I'm very well aware on how to use tags and have read the Microsoft documentation pages about them before asking my question here.

Hi Wim, I'm afraid I'm out of ideas. Let's ask other advisors and fellow Teams users for other suggestions that might help.

They would be able to respond to this thread and share their input.

Your patience will be highly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Arif
