After thorough research and consulting, it’s been concluded that the assignments posted before you joined the team not automatically shared with you. It is expected behavior to access activities that were posted after you became a member of the team however to have access to the assignment you need to have permission to the assignment. You need to ask
Create an assignment in Microsoft Teams for Education and assign it to individual or small groups of students in a class. Groups turn in one copy of the assignment that can be graded separately or together. Reference: Create group assignments or assign to individual students - Microsoft Support
Reach out to the owner of the team or the person who posted the assignments. They might need to manually grant you access to the older assignments or to assignments.
