Unable to share video to external users on Teams Chat

We have recently had to migrate our chat groups from Kaizala to Teams. A lot of groups contain external users who have signed up to Teams using their mobile phone numbers.

In group chats that the user has been added with a mobile number we are unable to share videos both from the camera or library. The video options is not present nor are videos in the gallery shown. This is happening in both iPhone and Android phones.

However if the chat is a user that has signed up with a email account then we are able to share videos. I have checked Teams Admin portal policies and can't see where I can enable this option for users. The only place which I thought it might be was Messaging policies, but as you can see the video messages is enabled already.

    Hello Qas_2021,

I'm Ibhadighi and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble sharing videos with external users on Teams Chat. This issue could be due to a few different factors:

    1. Guest Permissions: Guests can only share files in channel conversations and you cannot share files to guests unless you change the sharing link to “people in this chat” or “specific people” (same thing) because then you’re adding a secure link using external sharing.
    2. External Access: External access users cannot share files. You might need to check the settings in the admin center at admin.teams.microsoft.com. In the left navigation, go to Meetings > Meeting settings. Under Participants, turn on Anonymous users can join a meeting.
    3. Teams Updates: Make sure that you have the latest Teams updates installed.
    4. Rejoin the Meeting: Leaving and rejoining the meeting might restore the recording functionality.

If none of these solutions work, you may want to consider contacting Microsoft support (https://support.microsoft.com/contactus) for further assistance. They can provide the most accurate information based on your specific situation.

Thank you Ibhadighi for your help.

    1. Guest Permissions: we can share all other file types like images and documents just no option for video
    2. External Access: is already on
    3. Teams Updates: In the test chat we are using all users have the latest version of the app
    4. Rejoin the Meeting: We've just tried this and still getting no option for video.

I will try contacting Microsoft support again, however when we did last time when migrating from Kaizala. Unfortunately we're still waiting for a reply.

I'm sorry to hear that you're still experiencing this issue. It seems like you've tried all the possible solutions and the issue persists.

As you mentioned, reaching out to Microsoft Support (https://support.microsoft.com/contactus) would be the best course of action at this point. They have access to more detailed account information and can provide further help.

In the meantime, as a workaround, you might consider uploading the video to a shared location like OneDrive or SharePoint, and then sharing the link in the chat. This could allow the other participants to view the video, even if it's not ideal.

I understand that this can be frustrating, and I appreciate your patience. I hope Microsoft Support will be able to resolve this issue for you soon.

    Best regards, Ibhadighi
