Microsoft Teams microphone volume is extremely quiet on the Lenovo T16 Gen 2 AMD laptops.

Hello,

Calls via the Microsoft Teams client, while using the built in microphone array, seems to be super quiet on our Lenovo T16 Gen 2 laptops.

We have tried disabling the Dolby audio processors in Device Manager, which broke external headsets but fixed the low integrated microphone volume.

No success with different Realtek drivers, windows updates, Lenovo System updater, optional updates, etc.

The microphone on the laptop is completely functional in EVERY OTHER APP, including Teams on the web.

Any direction would be appreciated.

It's the second time i see this problem occuring on Lenvo laptops T14 / T16 multiple gens. (not sure which one exactly)

In november or december 2024 this problem occurred also and we did find a way to fix it.

We pinpointed the problem down to the dolby extension or realtek drivers that are pushed by the Microsoft Updates (from intune).

When we deployed a "fresh" install from autopilot, we had no problem with the low volume.

After we run the "Check for updates" and install all drivers, we directly have the problem.

    We solved this by:

Installing an "old" driver of Lenovo (google for M7aud50us17.exe + lenovo)

This driver removed the drivers that are installed by "Windows Update"

The sound problem is solved now.

DONNOT run "Check for new Updates" at this time.

After the downgrade, install directly the "new" driver : (google for - N3ua118w.exe)

Installing this driver prevents "Windows Update" from finding a new available driver from the Microsoft driver store

So at this moment, the problem was solved.

    Until

somewhere in April, Microsoft did an update on their drivers packs in Intune and again, the same problem occurred.

Probably this could have been prevented by pushing the available lenovo driver before microsoft added the updates drivers to their driver packs (or start manually approving driver packs to the intune autopatch proces).

Next step will be a ticket for Microsoft.

    To be continued

    Hey @black96ws6,

I am glad to hear that it is not just the AMD model of laptops! I am really hoping this gets figured out as we are deploying more and more of this particular model to our users.

Please keep me posted if you find a fix! That would be awesome!

That folder doesn't exist on my device.

I am having the same issue as OP. I have a T14 Gen 5 Lenovo with an intel microphone. ONLY the desktop teams app has an issue. Web version works totally fine.

What is going on with the teams desktop app?

    Dear Pierce,

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft community.

As mentioned above, the Microphone volume is low on the Teams app while It works well on the Web.

I can relate the inconveniences that comes with Teams microphone on the App been quiet(low).

I can also see that You have tried some trouble shooting steps and the issue persists.

Could you please try the trouble shooting steps below to see If it helps>>

I would suggest you clear Teams cache and try to restart Teams again.

Here is the Link that shows the steps to Clear Teams cache>>>>
