Default Settings to Mute Microphone

Is there a way to set the microphone to default to mute and the camera to default to off when I join a Teams meeting? I can't find anything in Teams settings for that. I'm using Windows 11.

    Yes. Come on Microsoft. And why not just go all out and force people’s cameras on by default too? Whatever messed up logic justifies turning on the mic by default would also imply that cameras should be on by default too, right?

    Why do you need people to request it when there are so many comments and threads asking for this feature. I came looking for same default setting as well. So disappointed that this feature is not supported.

    My experience is the opposite of what described above. My microphone is by default on mute, and by now have not found a way to change this. The function muted microphone when entering a meeting suddenly appeared about a month ago and not initiated by me – automatic program upgrade?

    I understand your concern. When you join a meeting in Teams you have the option to mute and make your camera off. Unfortunately, there is no option to set the microphone to default to mute and the camera to default to off when you join a Teams meeting for now.
