I have a user that is getting this error when trying to create a new Team in the Teams beta version. I was having it as well until I cleared my cache. Unfortunately, the same fix did not work for them. Any ideas?

    Hi Chris,

Thank you for reaching out. My name is Furkaan, a user just like you. I’d be happy to help you with your concerns. The error message "We couldn't complete that action" can appear for a few reasons when creating a team in Microsoft Teams Beta. Here are some possible solutions you can try:

Clear the Teams cache: While this worked for you, it may not always be the solution. Instruct your user to clear the Teams cache and data. Here's how to do it:

Close the Microsoft Teams desktop app. Open the File Explorer window. Type in the following path: %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams Press Enter. Delete all the folders within the Teams folder. Restart the Microsoft Teams app. Ensure good internet connectivity: A weak or unstable internet connection can cause this error. Instruct your user to check their internet connection or try connecting to a different network.

Check Teams Permissions: It's possible that your user doesn't have the necessary permissions to create teams. They'll need to consult with your IT admin to see if their account has the appropriate permissions.

Report the issue to Microsoft: If none of the above solutions work, then it might be a bug with the Teams beta version. Instruct your user to report the issue to Microsoft so they can investigate it further.

Unfortunately, I had cleared both their Beta and legacy Teams cache prior to making this post. I am an IT admin, so I made sure before posting that they had that ability. It doesn't seem to be affecting anyone else (at least that I had test it), just this user. Looks like I'll have them report it to Microsoft. Oddly enough, they can create one in the old Teams version, but not the beta. Bummer they couldn't iron out the many kinks in beta before forcing us to switch to it, but it is what it is. I appreciate your reply Furkaan.

    Hi Chris,

That's frustrating, it sounds like you've taken most of the common troubleshooting steps already. Here are a few additional things you can try before having the user report it to Microsoft:

Reinstall Teams Beta: A clean reinstall of the Teams Beta app might resolve any underlying issues.

Check for Updates: Even though it's a beta, there might be a newer version available that fixes the issue. Make sure the user is running the latest version of Teams Beta.

Try a Different Account: If possible, try creating a new Team using another user account on the same device. This will help identify if the issue is specific to the user account or the environment.

We've tried a few accounts with mixed results. Funnily enough I just did a fresh install with the user and the issue still persists. Turns out they can create a new Team on their phone app though! After doing some more digging, it appears Microsoft is aware of the issue (though there doesn't seem to be a fix yet):

This notification was submitted on June 4th, so I'm shocked it still appears to be prevalent, but at least they are aware of the issue.

Several users in my company are also experiencing the same issue with the new Microsoft Teams as of the past few days. I know that the post indicates it isn't client-specific but, when I switched to classic (can't anymore now), I am able to create a team as expected. Additionally, creating a team via the app on iPad/iPhone works as well. However, switching back to the new Microsoft Teams causes the issue to return.
