Redirect to Google Chrome when opening links in Microsoft Teams in full screen

Hello and anticipated thanks for the future help!

Context:

Switching from a windows machine to a mac for work, where we are using Teams as communication tool.
My use case is the following:

  • I have my teams and google chrome in full screen on my mac's monitor.
  • I have chrome as my default browser.
  • I open a link shared on teams with the expectation of it opening on chrome.

**Extended expectation:**By clicking the link I would expect to be redirected to chrome (the focus on screen switches) with the link loading in a new tab.
Existing behaviour: The screen kind of flashes out, the view returns with the focus on Teams and the link gets loaded in chrome in the background and have to switch to the chrome view to actually see the page loaded with the link.
Reasons for posting here: From what i noticed this behaviour only happens on Teams app. I have other applications, like my IDE (software engineer here) that work in the expected way.
Question: Is there some settings/shortcut that could enable the expected behaviour? If not could we have it somewhere down the line?

    Hi Spiridon,

    Thanks for contacting us,

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble with opening links in Chrome from Teams in full screen mode on your Mac.:

    • You can make Teams open links in Chrome by changing the default browser settings on your Mac. To do this, you need to open System Settings or System Preferences from the dock, click Desktop & Dock in the left menu, scroll down and locate Default web browser, click the current default web browser, then select Google Chrome from the dropdown.
    • However, this may not solve the issue of switching the focus to Chrome when you click a link in Teams. This is a known bug that affects some Mac users who use full screen mode for multiple apps. You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Chrome by going to Settings > Advanced > System and toggling off Use hardware acceleration when available. This may improve the performance of Chrome and make it switch faster when you open a link from Teams.

    I hope this helps!

    Regards, Sola

I just checked on Windows 11 with the classic teams apps for work or school accounts.
You have to chose the browser in the settings under Links and Documents.

Daniele U. got it: Teams -> Settings -> Files and Links -> Links open preference -> Default Browser

Assuming chrome is your default in your system settings, as the submitter had stated and the adviser ignored.

    You should try advising.
