Unable to Give Control during screen sharing in Team Meetings to some attendees

During presentations/meetings while screen sharing in Teams, I give attendees control one at a time. The majority of the time, this works smoothly; however, there are usually a couple of attendees whose names appear but are greyed out from the drop-down list & I am unable to give them control. What could be causing this - could it be an issue on their end, & in which case, can it be resolved on their end? I tried sharing & un-sharing the screen, but that doesn't resolve it. Thanks

Hello Vrsmitty,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft community. When you encounter attendees whose names appear but are greyed out in the “Give Control” drop-down during screen sharing in Microsoft Teams, there are a few potential reasons for this behavior.

Verify that your computer has a dedicated graphics processing unit (GPU) capable of hardware acceleration. Ensure that GPU drivers are up-to-date. To verify if your system supports hardware acceleration: In Microsoft Edge, visit edge://gpu/. In Google Chrome, visit chrome://gpu/. Look for any value indicating “Software only” or “hardware acceleration unavailable.” If you’re using a laptop, make sure it’s not running in power-saving mode, which might disable GPU acceleration.

Teams Desktop Client: Use the Microsoft Teams desktop client (not the web version) for optimal performance. The desktop client provides better GPU utilization and features like “Give Control.”

Ensure that both you and the attendees are using the Teams desktop client (not the browser version). Control isn’t supported when either party uses Teams in a browser.

If both parties are using the desktop client, check the meeting policies: Verify that the “Allow a participant to give or request control” option is enabled under “Content Sharing” in the effective meeting policy for the user. Admins can also enable this feature organization-wide in the admin settings.

Regards Ruth
