Currently the Teams posts dates are in American version (MM/DD/YYYY), I want to change it to (DD/MM/YYYY). How can I do that?

Hi Yolanda,

To change the display of date formats in Teams (other than the default of US date format), try the following steps.

To change date format for Teams desktop application:

  1. Click the 3 ellipses (top right corner of screen)
  2. Click settings
  3. Under General, look out for App Language and change it to your region/location (other than English US)

To change date format for Teams web app:

  1. Sign into Office.com
  2. Click on the cog wheel (top right corner of screen)
  3. Under Language and time zone, click Change your language
  4. Under Region, Change your regional format to your location

My windows regional settings are set correctly to dd/mm/yyyy, the problem is that Teams is ignoring those and presenting dates in US mm/dd/yyyy format

This is WRONG. Teams DOES NOT follow the computer's regional setting. It is typically American and does not realise (spelt with a 's') there is a rest of the world and that the majority of the world (these are places outside of the USA for explanation to our USA readers) will read the dates completely incorrectly.

I have spoken to Microsoft Teams product management about these issues directly in past years. They are aware of the date and internationalisation issues but have no priority to address them.

There are broken date and language-formatting issues all through the Microsoft 365 online ecosystem from SharePoint and OneDrive up. These issue surface in Office apps, Power BI and Teams.

For example if you run a search in Teams, then the chat results are dated correctly in DD/MM/YYYY format, and the file results are dated incorrectly as MM/DD/YYYY on the same screen.

There are no user or tenant level fixes to any of these issues. Microsoft needs to fix these bugs. Life and death decisions are made based on dates and location information. I can see that a class-action could be made against Microsoft in respect of its commitments to customers on these issues.
