How Can I Block Fathom AI from Being Used in Microsoft Teams Across My Organization?

Hi everyone,

We're currently trying to prevent users from using Fathom AI, a meeting assistant that can join Teams calls and access calendar data.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Fathom AI does not appear in the Teams Admin Center under "Manage Apps", so I can't block it directly from there.
  • We use an allow list for external domains, so I can't block Fathom via domain restrictions.

I am looking for a reliable method to block Fathom AI from joining Teams meetings or accessing user data.

    Hello,

    Good day to you!

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community!

To restrict external attendees from using Notetaker AI applications in Microsoft Teams meetings you can follow these steps:

    1.Disable External App Interaction:

    • You can sign in to the Teams admin center.
    • Navigate to Meetings > Meeting settings. Under Participants, change the toggle for “Anonymous users can interact with apps in meetings” to Off. Then you select Save.

    2. Require verification checks to join Teams meetings (as a workaround):

Based on my research, I found that Microsoft has introduced a powerful new security feature for Teams. You can request verification using a CAPTCHA challenge for anonymous or untrusted users to address this issue.

This enhancement helps organizations better control who can access their sessions, reduce unauthorized participation, and protect sensitive information.

Once again, thank you again for raising this issue; it’s helped broaden my understanding. I hope you understand that I want to help as much as I can within the scope of this forum.
