WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT BACKSTAGE ISSUE

Version 1809 (build 10813.20004)

Office Insider.

Starting 8/19 (I am a daily user):

Excel, PP, Word opens for about 3 seconds, then closes.

If I launch by opening a saved file, I don't see this problem.

After I try to open Excel directly a couple times (unsuccessfully), and then open a saved Excel file, I get this message:

I responded "Yes" to turn off the Start screen, closed the file and retried.  Excel opens properly, and stays open.

I turned the Start screen back on, closed Excel, and tried to restart, and the problem returns.

If I try to select any backstage function, Excel crashes as well.  Even with "Start screen" turned off.  This happens in PP and Word also.

    UPDATE:

Neither repair option corrected the issue.

I uninstalled, and then reinstalled O365.  This took me back to 1807 Build 10325.20118 C2R

I verified the previous problems were not present.

Then I re-initiated Insider and executed updates, bringing me back up to 1809/10813.20004.

    Sure enough, the problems re-appeared.

I'm guessing this latest release (8/17) is the culprit.

    Hi

First try Quick Repair (takes 5 - 10 mins) , if that doesn't help then try Online Repair (Takes more than 30 mins but less than 1 hour in general)

    https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Repair...

An additional step would be to run a scan to find and repair files.

To do that, you would bring up a command prompt window in administrator mode.

    1. In Cortana type Command.

    2.You will see Command Prompt.

    1. Right-click on that and run as Administrator.
    2. Then type or paste the following into the command prompt black box:

    sfc /scannow

    1. Then press the Enter key.

If these do not work, try to back out to a previous release and report it as bug.

    Regards

Try repairing your Office installation. First try Quick Repair (takes 5 - 10 mins) , if that doesn't help then try Online Repair (Takes more than 30 mins but less than 1 hour in general)

    Windows Key+I > Apps > Locate Office & click > Modify > Quick repair / Online repair
