Outlook 365 hangs using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC's "send as attachment" function

A feature I frequently used in Adobe Acrobat freezes after I use it until I close Adobe Acrobat. Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open an existing instance of Outlook 365.
  2. Open a PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. Use Share -> Send As Attachment -> Default email application (Microsoft Outlook)
  3. Send the email with attached PDF file in the Outlook window that comes up.

Outlook becomes unresponsive until Adobe Acrobat Reader DC is fully closed. Is there a way to resolve this issue?

    Hi Beastian,

Sorry for the late reply because of the OOF reason and thanks for your posting back, based on your description, it works well if you send email with attaching PDF file local computer, it indicates your Outlook desktop client should be well, since this issue will occur if you directly share from the Acrobat Reader DC. To narrow down if this issue is related to Outlook desktop or Acrobat Reader DC, please change the default email application to another email application(you may try to use the Windows email application as test email application) and see if you can directly share the PDF file from the Acrobat Reader DC. If issue appear, you may try to perform a clean boot. This is helpful with eliminate software conflicts that occur when you install a program or an update. The detailed steps you can refer to following link:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-sg/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows .

If issue persists although you change a different email application, this issue should be related to Acrobat Reader DC, please contact that third party software support for assistance, you can also share the result here if there are any updates,.

    Regards,

    Bryan

    Hi Bryan,

    Regarding your inquiries:

    1. The issue is not present if the PDF is directly attached from an email context launched from Outlook.
    2. It doesn't matter which PDF I try to send from Adobe Acrobat. It also occurs on multiple computers in my office.
    3. I have checked for updates and installed the ones that were available: the issue still occurs.
    4. Outlook reports:

    Version 1904 (Build 11601.20178 Click-to-Run) Monthly Channel

    Acrobat version: 19.010.20099

Acrobat is updated to its latest version.

    Hi Beastian,

Based on your description, the Outlook will become unresponsive if you try  to directly share PDF in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC using Outlook, please try to use Support and Recovery Assistant for Office 365, you can sign in Sara with your Office 365 account and select the support topic that best describes this issue to do dialogs, for the topic, it should be "Outlook stops responding or freeze".

In addition, please do an repair for all your Office programs and see if it helps.l

If issue persists, to narrow down the cause, I need to confirm more information.

    1. Will this issue still occur if you save the PDF file as local computer and send email with attaching it as attachment?
    2. Please share that PDF with changing  the default email application to another one and check this issue still occur, like windows email application?
    3. Have you updates your Outlook desktop client or Acrobat Reader DC?
    4. Please go to File > Office account to check your Outlook version and provide a screenshot of the Product information

    Regards,

    Bryan
