I am unable to move messages from the Inbox to subfolders within the Inbox.

I have tried changing the Root but the negative consequences of moving all subfolders up to the primary mailbox was not helpful.  And hitting the ESC key did nothing.

    Hi Michele,

It seems that you have uploaded some screenshots but we are unable to see them, please try again as following capture:

Besides, for the detailed Outlook version, it looks like Version 1808 (Build 10730.20102 Click-to-Run).

Since you can move emails in web version, this should be a client issue, please try to open Outlook with safe mode to check if any add-in may cause the issue. If the issue persists, try to repair Outlook Data File to check the outcome.

    Thanks,

    Iry

As I stated in my original problem statement, when I do as you recommend, it moves all folders under the Inbox up to the main mailbox, in line with Inbox.  This is not what I want.  I want to keep the folders where they were under Inbox but be able to delete mail from the Inbox and move mail from the Inbox.

    1. The error message you see. Please capture a screenshot.

This is the error message I am getting whenever I try to move an email in my Inbox to a folder under Inbox

but if I open the message, I can move it.

This is the error I get when I try to delete an email from my Inbox

but if I open the message, then I can delete it.

    1. Can you move emails from other folders? Yes,  I can move messages from folders under the Inbox to other folders under the Inbox.
    2. Please sign in the web version of the IMAP account and move emails. Yes, this works fine.  Then see if it will sync in the Outlook client.  I'm not sure what I am supposed to see here.
    3. The version number of the Outlook client. Click File->Office account. Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2016

    Hello Michele,

Thanks for your post in the forum. Regarding to the problem, may I know what type of the mailbox you are using and what error message you see? Based on the description, the Root folder path option is available to IMAP accounts in Outlook client. So I assume that you are using an IMAP account.

To help you better, please Go to FILE -> Account Settings -> Account Settings -> Double click the IMAP account -> More Settings -> Advanced tab. Under "Folders", type "Inbox" in the blank box of "Root folder path".

If the issue persists, I want to collect some information for further check:

    1. The error message you see. Please capture a screenshot.
    2. Can you move emails from other folders?
    3. Please sign in the web version of the IMAP account and move emails. Then see if it will sync in the Outlook client.
    4. The version number of the Outlook client. Click File->Office account.

If I misunderstand you, please feel free to correct me.

    Regards,

    Rick
