Error code 80090016 Trusted Platform Module has malfunctioned.

When I try to add a new Office 365 email to my outlook I get the error below.   I think it's because of my "Work or school account" which I want to remove. I'm not sure how my email was signed up for this second account. I set up this computer for home use only, I won't be using any of the Microsoft Azure features.

My question is, what will happen when I remove my “work account” and leave my Microsoft account?  Everything is backed up on Onedrive, I just don’t know what to expect because when I went to remove it, it warned me about losing data and settings.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

    Dear 3D Scanner

I have been experiencing this issue since MS updates at or around the 13th/14th of August.  VERY ANNOYING!  My Office 365, Outlook Google Syncs (email and google drive) as well as WebeEx.  All prompting me for u-name and p-word with every reboot.  i have been scouring the web looking for real solutions.  I came across this page.

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/f4742bab-4e27-4963-a151-2349a234132b/outlook-365-2016-trusted-platform-module-error-code-80090016?forum=outlook

look at Binod Shrestha response.  I think this is the easier path, as other posts were suggesting to blast away your PC profile and start over.  That seems to work, according to posts, but quite frankly if the TPM driver is corrupt, uninstalling it is a good solution, I think.

    Thoughts and comments welcomed!

    Best Regards,

    Lou

    Hi Lou

Thanks for the suggestion.  That does not seem to fix my problem.  I have actually tried this without any success.  I have even gone further by completely repartitioning my OS drive, reformatting, then reinstalling Win10 from scratch (6 times), each time hoping I could find the magic and fix this issue.  The first two times I didn't even have a TPM module and so I contacted my hardware manufacturer and purchased one and installed it.  Windows reports that it is working - until I try to use Outlook.  I do constantly get password messages for other stuff as well, but they never report this error.

I do have other computers that seem to be working okay.  the difference is that they upgraded from 1903 to 2004 using the windows update tool this week, where the computer with the issue installed 2004 fresh as it has a new SSD.

I am happy to receive any other ideas from anyone else on this issue.  I have never run into a computer problem so perplexing and with no means of support.

My next test will be to do a fresh install of build 1903 that I got from my computer manufacturer, then let it upgrade to 2004 via the update tool and see if that fixes my problem.

    Hi 3D Scanner

sorry for the delay in my reply.  thanks for your message.  This is very frustrating.  I received a message on MS Outlook today I wanted to share with you. I believe it is related to our collective issues and it may appear MS is aware and working on a solution. Attached (below my closing signature) is the screen shot I took of my Outlook Admin message.  HTH.

Please let me know if you hear or see anything out there. I have decided not to re-do a user profile or anything else.  The issues only arise when I reboot my laptop.  Then once rebvoot is complete I have to sign in to all my apps and services.  The only thing that is giving me issues is signing in to Office 365 apps.  This won't work at all.  I get the triangle next to my name on each office product.  Otherwise my services and apps stay logged in.

    Best to you,

    Lou

    Hi,

For me, it worked after doing these steps-

    Go to control panel

    Open user accounts

Select your account and click on properties

Now just toggle between radio button (your current selected radio button to some other and again to you original)

    Click apply then ok

It will ask for sign-out do it. After re-login windows, everything worked me as before, normal signing procedure for outlook and allowing device management to organisation and all working fine

We use a type of Folder Redirect that does a type of roaming profile and we also get this message. In AD there is a place to redirect the user profile and if we remove that entry the error doesn't pop up; but when we have that entry in the AD to redirect the user profile we get this error and everyone we have setup with a folder redirected roaming profile gets it. When I remove the entry the users no longer get the error. From what I see it's something that isn't liking how the user profile is being redirected back to a server share.
