outlook.office365.com redirects to /owa for calendar

I used to access my calendar through https://outlook.office365.com/calendar/view/WorkWeek.

Our admin asked that we enable 2FA on our accounts and after I did that, I am still able to access mails at https://outlook.office.com/mail/inbox, but when I try to access my calendar, I get redirected to https://outlook.office.com/owa/?path=/calendar/view/WorkWeek.

This OWA version of the calendar is irritating, as it lacks a lot of the nice features I've gotten used to, especially dark mode.

Any idea how to change this back?

    Further update:

It definitely has to do with the de-allocation/allocation  of office365 licences. It does not appear that the level of licence makes a difference.

I just removed the business essentials licence of another user in our organisation that had the same issue and re-allocated it immediately again.

After that, he was able to go to https://outlook.office365.com/calendar/view/workweek without being redirected to the owa version.

If you are having the same issue, go to your admin portal and remove the office365 licence from a user account and then re-assign it. Should be at this link:

https://admin.microsoft.com/Adminportal/Home?source=applauncher#/licenses (You will need to be an admin)

    Hope this helps someone.

Hello Francois, i'm Timon and i'm glad to help you.

I've just tested, dark mode is available, even with the link provided.

To make sure i understand your concern, can you please share some screenshots ?

    I'm including two screenshots.

The first one is of my mail inbox, showing the settings pane on the right. You will note that it has dark mode as an option and the url is not with "owa" in it.

The second one is the calendar that I am now being directed to, also showing the settings pane without dark mode (it's not anywhere in the settings, I've really looked. Not even when selecting different themes).

It is as if these are two different applications. The look and feel of the one that does not direct to /owa is similar to the one you get with a personal Microsoft account on https://outlook.live.com/mail/0/inbox.

I'm sure that there is some setting/protocol that is redirecting the calendar to the owa, but nobody seems to know where or how to fix it.

Also, when I'm in the email inbox on https://outlook.office.com/mail/inbox and I look at the target link for the calendar icon at the bottom, it directs to https://outlook.office.com/owa/?path=/calendar, where it also used to point to https://outlook.office.com/calendar.

    I hope that helps?

    Thanks for the detailed reply.

I'm afraid i'm not able to reproduce this behavior, even with 2FA.

It seems that the link https://outlook.office.com/owa/?path=/calendar doesn't redirect properly.

The second screenshot makes me think your browser use Office 365 general app instead of Outlook web app, that's why cosmetic's settings such as dark mode are not available.

As you said, using this link should work as intended:

    https://outlook.office365.com/calendar/view/wor...

Have you tried with an other browser ?

Thank you for the effort to assist.

I've tried with Firefox, as well as Chrome incognito mode and they both redirect from https://outlook.office365.com/calendar/view/workweek to

    https://outlook.office.com/owa/?path=/calendar/view/WorkWeek

I even tried on my phone browser, same story.
