Outlook[.com] future support for non- Outlook.com accounts?!?

Periodically, I get disgusted with Windows Mail (and iCloud Mail and so on) and reconsider my email client options. I used to use Outlook but it became such a buggy hot mess for several versions, about five years ago, that I started using Windows Mail on the Windows platforms. (It's also a buggy, and gimped, mess, TBH, but it's easy.)

A good (family of) client(s), supported on multiple platforms (I own/use, regularly, Windows, MacOS, ChromeOS--Android subsystem or PWA/web, iOS, and iPadOS devices) for multiple email accounts (from my own domains hosted by Ionos, from Gmail, and from several other IMAP/POP/SMTP hosts of lesser importance) is a key requirement.

I've been reading that Windows Mail and Outlook apps will soon be migrating to a new common platform somehow like "Outlook.com". Except now Outlook.com has, of all wild things, dropped support for connecting any email accounts not hosted by Microsoft.

Is that the future of all Outlook everywhere? What are they thinking? ("Wouldn't it be great if everybody used an @Outlook.com email address?" Kinda like "wouldn't it be great if everybody only used Edge?" First it was "...IE?" Then "...Bing?")

We appreciate that you've taken the time to post your concern here in Microsoft Community Forum.We understand that you had a not so good experience while using Microsoft products specially the ability to connect any email accounts that isn't hosted by Microsoft. We understand as well that it would be more convenient if you can still connect multiple accounts in outlook.com server.
