I have switched to the new Microsoft To Do app in Microsoft Outlook and I want to return to the origin Outlook tasks. When I select File > Options > Tasks, I have unchecked "Open tasks in the To Do app" but it is still using the new To Do app.

I may have your solution.

File-> Options-> Advanced

Uncheck "Show Apps in Outlook"

Restart Outlook

and bonus mine reverted the mail, calendar, people, tasks icons back to the bottom where they belong!

Good luck!

    I am so happy that I found this post. I have logged 5 support requests trying to find a Microsoft support person that could help me restore the classic tasks to my Navigation pane and no one was able to help me. I started asking for assistance on May 18th, 2023. What has happened to the Microsoft Support for Office 365 Business??

    I'm very happy to be able to continue to use the classic tasks, but I'm very concerned that it looks like Microsoft is retiring this functionality in favour of the new "To Do" functionality. Although the "To Do" functionality has some cool features of cross-application usage, the basic task management features are garbage!! I have currently have 86 active tasks that I use to track all of my interactions relating to the tasks. This can be accomplished very nicely in Tasks with the rich text features of the Notes area. From what I can tell, this is not supported with “To Do”. I will be very sad to see “Tasks” disappear and will need to look for another vendor’s task management solution.

    Thank you!

    The biggest issue for me is not being able to regenerate tasks x # of days, weeks, etc from the last one. I primarily use that feature and without it, tasks are useless for me.

    Thanks.

    1. Outlook Version 2304 (Build 16327.20248)
    2. Yes, I have logged out, restarted Outlook, and restarted my computer
    3. I can see only the blue check mark icon instead of the original task icon. When I click it, I can see tasks and flagged email in the newer view within Outlook. I am unable to see tasks with customized filtering, sorting, and grouping, as I previously had set up
