Does (.) dot matters (used as a differentiator) in Outlook, live and hotmail email alias.

Like in Gmail If someone accidentally adds dots to your address when emailing you, you'll still get that email. For example, if your email is johnsmith @gmaildotcom, you own all dotted versions of your address:

  • john.smith @gmaildotcom
  • jo.hn.sm.ith @gmaildotcom
  • j.o.h.n.s.m.i.t.h @gmaildotcom

Adding dots doesn't change your address, so dots aren't why you got someone else's mail. Instead, the sender probably mistyped or forgot the correct address.

For example, if someone meant to email john.43.smith @gmaildotcom but typed john.smith @gmaildotcom, the message went to you because you own johnsmith @gmaildotcom.

DO outlook, live, hotmail email alias has same feature ????

    Hello Manish S

Hi, I'm Karl and will be happy to help you today.

First, any email addresses included in a post are removed for security reasons so no one can see what email address was entered on your post making it impossible to follow the examples you have included (addresses edited by mod to make them visible)

Adding a dot in the username of any email address makes it a completely different email address whether or not it is an alias email address.

    For example

    krtimmermans @ wherever

    kr.timmermans @ wherever

    k.r.timmermans @ wherever

Are 3 completely separate email addresses which can be owned by 3 different individuals. No one owns any email address merely because there is a dot contained in the username.

*** the same rule applies if a hyphen or underscore is used in a username.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask, we're here to help you further if needed.
