Changing security information on my outlook/microsoft account

I am presently changing the security information on my Outlook, Microsoft account. 30 day wait period. 15 min After I received the following message on my old security information gmail account.

"Someone started a process to replace all of the security info for the Microsoft account with the following info:
If this was you, click the button below to bypass the waiting period by using your existing security info.<br><br> <br><br>Is this message legit? and can i click into the link and change up my security information prior to the 30 day waiting period?
Outlook | Windows | New Outlook for Windows | For business

    Hello,

    My name is Jackson and thank you for your question.

    If you have access to the old security info, you do not need wait the 30days pending period as you are just suppose to verify and update the new info with the steps;

    1. Sign in to your Advanced security options page using your Microsoft Account; https://account.live.com/proofs/manage/additional
    2. Select Add a new way to sign in or verify then choose how you would like to receive security codes.
    3. We'll send a security code to confirm. Enter that code when prompted and then select Next.
    4. That's it. Next time you need a sign-in verification code, you will see the new option listed.

    Yes the message is legit and by following the option it take you to verify and replace the info immediately. see more details in the link;

    Hello Jackson. Thank you very much for the response and information. Based on that I will go to back to my Gmail account and click into the link in the email and start the process. Thanks again!
