Toggling back and forth is not an option. I have tried it and it is not an option. This is a very common file type that is used heavily in the IT industry so this is a major issue. Can you please provide an estimate as to when this file type will be available? All file types that are available for the regular Outlook should be available in New Outlook, so I really do not understand why this is such an issue.
Unable to open XML files in New Outlook
I have been having this issue for some time now. I am unable to open XML files in the new Outlook. When I receive the files they have a red circle over them and I cannot open or download the files. Here is what the XML attachments look like:

Based on your description, I understand that you have a concern about opening .xml files in the New Outlook. Did further tests and consults on my end as well and I'm afraid I'm getting the same behavior. Looks like the new outlook doesn't support this file format yet. I do understand your need for this, and we will surely raise your concerns with our product team and hopefully this can be included in future updates.
If you heavily rely on this feature, you may consider toggling out of the new Outlook for Windows preview.
Kindly understand that many functions are not designed at present. I'd suggest creating an entry as a feature suggestion in feedback collection directly through your new outlook (Help-->Feedback) or at Outlook · Community (microsoft.com) and many other users could vote for it. Many features of our current products are designed and upgraded based on customers’ feedback.
I will update here just in case I get any update on this.

2024-09-03T13:58:06+00:00 I have the same issue with New Outlook. In my business, customers often attach .xml files that must be downloaded and/or viewed. Switching back to Old Outlook just to view or download a file is inefficient; therefore, the ability to handle .xml files in the New Outlook is important and should be addressed.

Much as I don't have an estimate on when this will be implemented for now, I will make more consults about it. 2024-08-06T10:43:50+00:00 You should have the old outlook installed in your laptop/machine. Try opening that and all your mails/calendars will be updated.
