Hi everyone,

I have a strange problem on my Mac, after the upgrade of Sonoma OS my Outlook use 100%+ of my CPU.

I have already uninstall and install the office suit, I have test the option+command manipulation but nothing have changed.

Actually I use the old Outlook visualization which allows me to get around the problem but I would like to know how to resolve this problem.

So far, the latest OS version seems to have solved it for me. 14.2.1. And that's on a 2019 machine.

In my opinion, when we use “Work Offline” feature on Outlook Mac desktop app, it cuts the connection to remote online server and suspends syncing status maintenance and related processes. From your description, when switching to "Work Offline” the CPU usage drops, I think may be the High CPU usage is caused by some processes running background or Outlook sync issue. I recommend you firstly check if there’s any Sync Issues folder under mailbox root folder, and check if there’s any logs in it.

This didn't help. I switched back to the legacy Outlook app which I haven't used in years and was able significantly reduce the CPU% ... with new it was running consistenly over 100% and now in the single digits.

    Hi,

I have another problem in OneDrive and Sharepoint, the display in alphabetical order is completely out of order.

I have to close and then reopen OneDrive to correct the problem.

Do you know if this is also linked to the SONOMA update?

    Dear Victor NORET,

I hope this email finds you well.

I am reaching out to you to sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you may have experienced with the New Outlook for Mac. We understand that it may have caused inconvenience.

I want to assure you that the Outlook for Mac team is aware of the issue you encountered. Our dedicated team of experts is actively working to address it and provide a resolution in a future update of the application. I have also noticed high CPU when using New Outlook in my MacBook Air.

But i notice that when only one action stops the CPU usage: switching to "Work Offline." As soon as I toggle that mode, CPU usage drops. Can you try it and let me know?

In my opinion, when we use “Work Offline” feature on Outlook Mac desktop app, it cuts the connection to remote online server and suspends syncing status maintenance and related processes. From your description, when switching to "Work Offline” the CPU usage drops, I think may be the High CPU usage is caused by some processes running background or Outlook sync issue. I recommend you firstly check if there’s any Sync Issues folder under mailbox root folder, and check if there’s any logs in it.

Then check Sync Error in Outlook desktop app. Temporarily disable all third-party plug-ins, anti-virus, for some may be conflicting with Outlook and Office. You can also exit other Office and Microsoft apps, restart Outlook for checking.

To further help I recommend reaching out directly to our Outlook for Mac team. They have the most up-to-date information regarding the issue and will be able to assist you further. I recommend you report it to our dedicated channel in Help -> Contact Support on Outlook menu bar, for they may have more resource that can better address the cause. We understand the importance of a seamless experience with our products, and we genuinely apologize for any inconvenience this issue has caused you. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we work towards resolving it.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly at [your contact information]. I am here to assist you in any way I can.

Once again, please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to providing you with the best possible experience with Outlook for Mac.
