Outlook crashes when drafting emails

Every time that I begin drafting an email in outlook, the app crashes after I have written 1-3 sentences. I have tried restarting my computer and the app but no updates are available. If I copy and paste text into the email box, then I can still send emails (sometimes) before the app crashes. I think the issue is with having the drafted email open.

I can use the website version of Outlook but I prefer the app so would like to get this sorted out. Any help would be very appreciated.

    Same problem here.
Trying to check the spelling in German crashes Outlook.
No problem with German spellchecking in Word, though.

Same here. It started days ago with OneNote crashing constantly, making it unusable (had to switch to online version, which is not satisfying long-term). Now thanks to this thread I deactivated "Check spelling as you type" in both Outlook and OneNote, and they stopped crashing... I also do some writing in German (Switzerland) and some in English.

Same here, Word and Outlook crash as soon as I spellcheck German. Had to disable "Check spelling as you type", but it still crashes when I manually switch Language to German...

I have the same issue: composing emails in German with "check spelling as you type" causes Outlook - and now Word - to crash after just a few words.

Also, if I disable "check spelling as you type" but then run the spell checker afterwards, it also causes both Outlook and Word to crash.

I can use Outlook and Word in English without any problems. My guess is that it's a problem with the German language pack.

Interesting that it only happens on my laptop, and just started a few days ago. On my desktop PC so far no problems.

Would be nice to hear something from Microsoft support, as this makes my laptop almost unusable.

    Dear Moderator,

Can you please check on this issue again. The suggestions you made above do not remedy the problem, and since the original post many others are having similar issues.

It seems like all Microsoft 365 programs with the option "check spelling as you type" crash after just a few words when a language other than English is activated. If this is deactivated the programs do not crash while typing, but if the spell checking is used afterwards the programs crash almost immediately.

I am having this issue with Outlook, Word and OneNote.

Looking forward to your response and hopefully a solution soon.

    Hi all,

The Office Team suggests that an Online Repair of Office should fix this issue. Can you please test this and let me know if it does?

If for any reason that does not work, can you test uninstall and reinstall of the language pack, (File, Options, Language, Office authoring languages and proofing)?

Please post an Event Viewer Application log event Event 1001 or Event 1000 for when the crash occurred. In one case I saw that the Faulting module was a DLL from a language pack and the version of the DLL was way too low.

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\root\Office16\mscss7it.dll

Faulting application name: OUTLOOK.EXE, version: 16.0.17830.20138, time stamp: 0x66aaad8c

Faulting module name: mscss7it.dll, version: 16.0.12527.20122, time stamp: 0x5e439ea1

    Exception code: 0xc0000005

    Fault offset: 0x000000000003e518

    Faulting process id: 0x0x51B0

    Faulting application start time: 0x0x1DAE97DD89190C3
