Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password

I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

    I've same issue, i'm using Office 2016 and it's not accept the password or app password. I'll use Mail App for temp solution but i hope they can solve the issue

    What version is your Office 2016? If it's not close to mine go to Windows Update > Advanced Options, and enable "Microsoft Update", Win11 setting below. This will ensure you have the latest Office updates.

    Check if you have this registry key set that tells Outlook to connect with Modern Auth. Its not normally needed but worth trying, How modern authentication works for Office 2013 and Office 2016 client apps - Microsoft 365 Enterprise | Microsoft Learn.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Common\Identity\

    Dword:EnableADAL

    Thanks for your help .... but why (within the last 2 days) is this suddenly not working?

    I have had Office 2016 for the last 4-5 years hooked up to my ******@HOTMAIL.COM !??!?

    Does not make sense ....

    And I'm not alone with the problem.

    Thanks for the try ...

    ... Same Office 2016 version as you

    ... Did the Regedit fix .... same problem! Asking for password :-( ... and now I don´t get any mails. I did yesterday - but could not send mails.

    Now its "all dead". The Windows 11 mail APP is working .... so it is NOT a password thing.

    I still think this is a World Wide Microsoft problem that started 2 days ago ... :-/
