I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(

See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

That being said, it has not been "down". Webmail (accessible via phone browser) has been fine, albeit inconvenient, and bouncing network or cancelling password prompts has worked for most.

Running webmail your mobile browser is not reliable for when you are waiting for incoming emails or events. Power management at the browser level or OS level will choke the browser and connection, so you will not get incoming emails/data unless you are back on the browser tab and refreshing. This is not a solution, unless you keep that tab alive and constantly check it, you will not get timely event notification. Mobile browser has a lot more power savings techniques enabled, and I am not going to disable all those just so we can cuddle to MS' unreasonable stance of not rolling back whatever they changed.

You seem to have an unreasonable level of tolerance to MS issues. What next? Blame mobile email client for generating notification event for the password/auth error? And they should just go quietly? Or pretend it didn't happen? These are critical issue and naturally the client will throw a critical/urgent level event and notification.

    AnotherBug,

You might have gotten further later in this thread but if you are still seeing issues with Outlook for M365 we can help with that. In Outlook for M365 see if you have the option for Help, Contact Support and submit a ticket from in the app. If you don't have that option, I will follow up later to enable it for you in the service. Just to make sure, in Outlook for M365 you have the account configured as an Exchange account, is that correct?

Lets check how that account is connecting to Outlook.com. It should be modern auth. Press the Ctrl key and then In the system tray right click on the Outlook icon and click Connection Status, Description of the Connection Status dialog box - Outlook | Microsoft Learn. What does it show in the AuthN column? Hopefully its MSA or Bearer.

    Hi all,

I had contacted some of those that posted in this thread yesterday and shared their Outlook.com information to the service team to investigate further. The service team is investigating. Just wanted to let you know it's still being followed up on.

I also have Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2016 with numerous outlook.com accounts configured and monitoring. If I catch an auth prompt, I share that to the team as well. My accounts are configured as Exchange accounts in Outlook and in the last few days have not seen but one prompt. If you are using POP or IMAP, please consider connecting with Exchange for the most robust protocol.

I am using Mailbird and I can no longer authenticate my outlook email address. I contacted Mailbird and they stated they have been getting constant calls of outlook authentication issues and that it is a Microsoft issue.
