I have this problem - Outlook 2016 doesn't accept password or app password - and i think it is a growing World wide Microsoft problem :-(

See also here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Outlook/comments/19dx64p/outlook_2013_windows_10_suddenly_not_accepting/Outlook gives me this: (startede yesterday)

I have 2 PC's with HOTMAIL accounts in Outlook 2016 ...

They both have this error.

I do get mails ... but I can´t send mails. Yesterday it did work for 1-2 hours ... but right now the error is there all the time :-(

Please help me.

Thanks in advance

Pierre

Are you using OAuth? Do you have details about your setup? Such as IMAP vs Outlook.com Sync?

Ideally I would recommend opening up an in app support ticket. That way the support agent can see details about how your accoutns are configured.

Thanks Omar for trying the new Outlook and getting all of your accounts added. If you have any feedback or anything at all please let us know. We are actively working to bring more functionality and address feedback and requests as they come in.

On the Ad front, yes if you do not have a Microsoft 365 subscription there will be ads, however if you have one you will not see ads in any of your accounts. Hope that helps.

    Hi, thanks for answering,

I actually installed the new free version of Outlook, it took me like 5 minutes to add all my 6 IMAP accounts, some from Gmail some from my web hosting provider some from msn.com and other from my ISP, Loved the auto-configuration, super easy and I actually like the software look.

Did some testing everything works great, I just needed to turn on the notification in my OS system settings to get the email notification banner to show up.

So the new Outlook is not that bad after all like someone complained here. Yes, you get the occasional ad email once in a while, and It just takes a click to send it in the garbage.

I guess that solves it for me.

Again, you ignored others' feedback - someone else called you out on the same issue and that this is relevant. The suggestion of using or moving to "new Outlook" as a workaround is not viable and it should be discussed here so people are aware of the risks. I concur with those that brought up the same issue.

The problem of this thread is still NOT solved! I added my personal Hotmail account to my work computer Outlook client today just to see if it made any difference and the answer is NO! I am getting constant pops for password. That Outlook is absolutely the latest with all the updates on the stable channel. Simply put, whatever authentication-related code changes MS made to the "Live' email accounts and servers (Outlook.com/Hotmail/MSN/Live brands) is broken. I do not count "new Outlook" as a true EAS client because it isn't - it's basically Outlook for Web wrapped up in a PWA - one might as well use Outlook for Web directly.

I also want to point out you started your User Profile just a couple of days ago, at the onset another user was called out for being not helpful. I wonder why a new user of 2 days believe he/she earned enough standing to accuse others of posting non-relevant info and call for moderation for on-topic discussions.

It is nice that you forwarded some information to the service team, but the initial issue is still marked as "fixed". Is there any information from the service team for us, for example an estimation or anything?
