When will the new Microsoft 365 Outlook Desktop App be forced?

I have a customer who uses an ERP/CRM system which uses Microsoft Office hooks to send emails, which do not work with the new Microsoft 365 Outlook Desktop App. It works with the "classic" Microsoft 365 Outlook Desktop App.

Thanks, and kind regards,

AjN3806

    Hello AjN3806,

    Thanks for reaching out!

The M365 classic outlook is still the recommended version for a business setting. The New Outlook for Windows is planned to replace the Windows Mail and Calendar app rather than the classic 365 outlook. Beginning in 2024, new Windows 11 devices will be shipped with the new Outlook for Windows as the default mailbox application. On existing devices, users can switch to the new Outlook for Windows from a toggle in the Mail and Calendar applications.

Thank you for your precious time and have a great day.

    Best Regards,

    Ashraf.

That wasn't really the question. The question is, when will there be a forced switch to the New Outlook if you are using classic Outlook (especially in a corporate environment). We need to know a deadline, so we can prepare our users for the lack of add-ins in the new version that are currently being used. Like the original poster, we are using both a CRM and document management system that uses old-style COM add-ins for email management, and we need to know when these will stop working.

I am in the exact same siutation as you with some old ERP/CRM system that doesn't work with the new outlook as they remove support for legacy add-ins.
Did you manage to get an answer from MS about this?

I thought Ashraf did answer the question. Users are not forced to stop using Desktop Office365 Outlook.

Microsoft has created a very confusing message, but they still sell the "classic" desktop Outlook and support it. They went and gave a Web app the same name. They might change their mind, but as you can buy Outlook with Office365 now, it would be weird to buy a product new and then be "forced" not to us it within the length of your subscription would unprecedented (I think) from MSFT.

We have many users using Office 365 Desktop Outlook for a review console for incoming orders, Invoices, Payments etc. This can be sone in SharePoint, but as most business users are already working in Outlook it is the idea place for this functionality. New Outlook does not display the Exchange fields like classic Desktop Outlook does.

Note the Standalone Outlook is supported until Oct 13, 2026.
