The advanced configuration will allow me to specify an SMTP user name but there is no way to configure the IMAP user name being different from the email-address.

This is really really annoying. All my family email addresses have different IMAP login user names from their actual email addresses - just how the hosting provider sets them up and now we cannot use Outlook as there is now way to actually add these types of accounts. How can Microsoft miss something as obvious as providing a user name box??

Is there any indication when this might be fixed?

This is frankly embarrassing for Microsoft. I cannot think of an email client in the last 30 years that did not have this most basic feature. Even the most amateur hobby open source email clients can specify an imap username.

Still, no way to give the username of the imap account. So, the new outlook mail client is completely useless to me. Who conducted the user stories and acceptance tests for this?

New Outlook is garbage. This is only one of the issues which shows it should never have been released anywhere near the general public at this stage.

    Hi Juhn,

I am referring to the "NEW Outlook", the Outlook version is 1.2023.927.10 and the client version is 20230922005.15.

As your screenshot shows, in the classic Outlook you can just specify the authentication name, in the new preview version this is missing:

The screenshot is Italian but generally, for IMAP you can only specify the password whereby for SMTP you can specify both, user name and password. As the email address is checked for correct format, so I cannot just put the user name as mail address.

    Regards

    Peter
