I receive emails with .ics appointment files. I would like to add to my outlook calendar, I continue to see advice such as this:

How to import a calendar file to connect

  1. Import .ics or .vcs file.
  2. In Outlook, select File > Open & Export > Import/Export.
  3. In Import and Export Wizard box, select Import an iCalendar (.ics) or vCalendar file (.vcs) ,and then Next.
  4. Select the calendar file from your PC and select OK.
  5. Select Open as New. The items are automatically imported into your calendar.
  6. I do not see any "File" in the New Outlook
  7. Events from email, located in the Callendar settings does not seem to be adding the events

    Hello Ric,

I'm Ibhadighi and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

In the New Outlook (often referred to as the "Simplified Ribbon" interface), the process to add an .ics file to your calendar can differ slightly from the traditional menu options. Here's a way to do it:

    1. First, save the .ics file from your email to a known location on your computer.
    2. Go to your Outlook calendar view.
    3. Look for an option to add a calendar. This might be a "+" sign, "Add Calendar", or similar option depending on your Outlook version. In some versions, you might need to find "Import Calendar" or "From File" option.
    4. Navigate to the location where you saved the .ics file, select it, and choose to open or import it.

If you're using the New Outlook on the web:

    • Navigate to your calendar in Outlook on the web.
    • Right-click on "My Calendars" or choose "Add Calendar" from the menu (usually found at the top or side).
    • Select "Upload from file", choose your .ics file, and follow the prompts to add it to your calendar.

Since the New Outlook interface might vary slightly based on updates or configurations, if these options are not visible, it could be helpful to check for any interface updates or revert temporarily to the Classic Ribbon for more straightforward access to the "File" menu, then proceed with the steps you mentioned.

If "Events from email" is not automatically adding events, ensure that the feature is enabled in your Outlook settings and that it supports the types of events you're expecting to be added. This feature might not always capture every event format sent via email.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards, Ibhadighi

I had a similar problem. I downloaded an .ics file that I wanted to load to my calendar but could not follow the stated instructions successfully. I finally attached the file to an email to myself and then was able to upload the appointment to my calendar from the email.

Although I was able to navigate to where add calendar and upload files was located, an area specific for .ics files does show up. You have a choice to drag and drop or browsing to retrieve the .ics file, (I tried both), I received an error message " Couldn't Import Calendar. Try again Later". Maybe this process is just not working at the moment. I also navigated to my MS365 through MS Edge. I received the same error message. Events from email is enabled. Thank you.

This is indeed a bug. When i doubleclick a ICS file on my W11 explorer folder, then the import window opens op where i cannot select a calendar, when i click import i get an error. There is also not such a feature to import an event in the new outlook app.
